"Sanctum" was first developed in 2014 as a public art project with East End Arts in Riverhead, NY. The "JumpstArt" program provided artists with the professional skills and resources needed to develop a successful community art project.
Made of PVC, fabric and LED/EL wire components, it was created to mimic a serene, natural environment in an urban environment. After spending a year in our National Parks, I wanted to symbolize the peace I found there - I realize this isn't always easy and that the hardships in life tend to haze our mind. "Sanctum" is a space for meditation and relaxation. During its debut, the participant could spend as much time as they needed to clear their minds and get a feel for the benefits of mindful reflection.
In development for 2017/2018, "Unity" will focus on providing a uniting experience through an interactive, expressive geodesic dome. This dome will be able to accommodate a larger audience as I intend to tour it around communities in Southern California and beyond. It will include interactive ambient lighting and sound, and a place for participants to find peace.
Through this project I also intend to raise awareness for the importance of community based art for the betterment of all its citizens. I will be developing workshops and activities leading up to this projects completion to build excitement and interest.
This project will require two phases of funding:
1) Development, Construction and Installation
2) Maintence, Touring and Beyond
